INTO THE PAST

FROM ITS inception, fly bus fly HAS BEEN A COLLECTION OF EFFORTS, PLACES, IDEAS, AND PEOPLE.  overtime, the places and people have changed, the effort has been constant, and the ideas never ceasing. THE STORY BELOW gives a glimpse into the history of fly bus fly; a bus window into the past.

THE DELTA

THE DELTA

the mississippi delta; a place of change, that seemingly has not changed for decades past. it was here, that three teachers, Ben; Kevin; and john, attempted to buy a school bus alongside an industrial size copier. we were only successful in one of our purchases. as the sun set on the fields of cotton, our living room was warmed by the constant humming of duplication. For years it rained paper in our dreams, yet, we never shook the idea that, one day, we would come home to a bus.

john left the delta first. then ben. kevin stayed, married, and multiplied. the delta is changing; we were changed.

FLY VAN FLY

FLY VAN FLY

we were all going different ways: michigan, massachusetts , new york, mississippi, etc. life long friends living their own life. it should have come as no surprise that when planning a trip we decided to buy a van and drive it to alaska.

the idea was simple: buy the van; fix the van; drive the van; give the van to the next adventurer.

along the route we coordinated volunteer activities.WE WERE IN HIGH SPIRITs as we embarked on the journey from ann arbor to anchorage. on the outskirts of chicago, just outside of gary, indiana, thomas humbled these spirits as he calmly proclaimed, "guys. guys, THE BRAKES AREN'T WORKING. the brakes really aren't working."

THIS VAN FLEW TOo CLOSE TO THE GREAT ENGINE IN THE SKY.

a mechanic bought the van for parts. we still made our way to alaska irrespective of the van's fate, ALL THE WHILE silently PONDERING, "WHAT IF..."

NEW BEGINNINGS

NEW BEGINNINGS

JOHN HAD BEEN IN DALLAS FOR A YEAR WHEN HE RECEIVED A CALL FROM BEN, "I'M COMING TO DALLAS FOR AN INTERVIEW. WANT TO GRAB DINNER?" A FEW MONTHS LATER AND BEN WOULD BE IN DALLAS STARTING HIS NEW JOB. SERENDIPITY AT ITS FINEST. IT TOOK NO MORE THAN 6 MONTHS TO DECIDE TO BUY A BUS. it was right around this time a good friend of ours, stephen, took an interest in fly bus fly. This was good news to us, but great news for the bus.

THE SEARCH BEGAN TO FIND A BUS WITH BROKEN WINGS, BUT WITH FULLY OPERATIONAL BRAKE LINES.
